Coaching for Builders & Trades
Get Off the Tools
You built the business. Clients rely on you. Your crew shows up. But at some point your role became firefighter, fixer, and final decision-maker.
I help builders and trade business owners get out of the middle of every job — and build a business that keeps running when they are not standing in it.
Why This Work Exists
My Dad spent his life on the tools.
He never got the chance to build the business that spirit deserved.
Glenn “Bud” Gilliland loaded ninety-pound bags of concrete by hand onto flatbed trailers before he was twenty. He drove a million miles without an accident. He became a master mechanic who could fix anything, and a shop foreman who ran his crew on one rule: there are no stupid questions.
He worked hard, and he worked alone, well past the point most people call it quits. What he never had was the systems, the pricing, and the team that would have let him step back and still keep what he built running without him.
The problem is not effort. The problem is that the business still depends on you being everywhere.
The Reality
Firefighter. Fixer. Final Call.
You jump in when a job goes sideways. You fix the process that keeps breaking. You stay late so the work still gets done, and you are back out at six the next morning because that is what it takes.
None of that is a discipline problem. You are not disorganized and you are not soft. The business was simply never built to run without you standing in the middle of it — and the busier it gets, the more that costs you.
What We Work On
Off the Tools, On the Business
- 01
Stuck on the Tools
Find where you are the bottleneck, and define the work that actually belongs to you.
- 02
Delegation That Does Not Develop the Crew
Hand off work in a way that builds leads who make the call you would have made.
- 03
Pricing and Systems That Quietly Cost You
Know what you bid, what you turn down, and which handoffs break the moment you grow.
Where to Start
One Month.
Then We Both Know.
Most owners start with one focused month. A real look at your jobs, your crew and your own workload, with weekly calls and text and email access in between. No twelve-month contract and no theory deck. At the end of it we both know whether ongoing coaching makes sense.
Your Coach
Ron Gilliland,
CPCC
I grew up around blue-collar work and spent years building things with my hands. I have coached owners for 26 years since.
I sit down with builders and trade business owners who are still doing everything themselves — not because they do not know how to lead, but because no one ever showed them how to get off the tools without the whole thing falling apart.
My Dad had the can-fix-anything spirit. My job is helping you build the business that spirit deserves.

When It Runs Without You
You Take the Week
Jobs still close out. The schedule does not slip because you were not there to push it.
The Crew Decides
Your leads make the call you would have made, without stopping work to phone you first.
You Price the Work
Your hours go to the decisions only you can make, instead of the labor anyone could.
That is not a personality change. That is what happens when the structure carries weight the owner used to carry alone.

Build the Business That Spirit Deserves
Twenty minutes, no pitch. Tell me what is actually happening on your jobs and I will tell you straight whether this is the right kind of help — and if it is not, what I think you need instead.
There are no stupid questions. That was my Dad's rule. It is mine too.
